A new Technology for Wrinkles, Vivelif is a naturally derived hexapeptide clinically shown to reduce fine lines and wrinkles. Vivelif reduces wrinkles in two ways: first, it moderates the excessive release of catecholamines, neurotransmitters that are believed to be involved in the formulation of wrinkles; and second, Vivelif modifies the formulation of the SNARE complex, the same protein complex targeted by botulinum neurotoxins, such as Botox. It accomplishes this by mimicking one of the proteins of the complex (SNAP-25) and then competing with it for a place within the complex. By capturing the complex in this way instead of breaking it the way Botox does, Vivelif is able to relax the muscle rather than paralyze them. Therefore, it works in much the same way Botox, but represents a topical treatment to prolong and boost the effects of cosmetic procedures. The acetyl hexapeptide in Vivelif was clinically shown to reduce wrinkles up to 30%.
